Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect?

You should allow between 60 and 90 minutes for the first session. This allows time for registration,  a discussion of your issues and a full treatment.  There may be short periods of time in which you will be left resting to absorb the gentle moves that have been performed; this is a normal part of the treatment. Subsequent sessions are usually between 45 and 60 minutes. Many people can feel the effects immediately, but for others the body may need 1 or 2 days to respond to the treatment. Most treatments are done with you resting comfortably on a treatment table – both on your front and your back.  However, if this is too uncomfortable or painful, treatments can be successfully carried out seated or indeed standing.  The therapist will make a series of small moves over precise points. The placement of these moves are tailored to your individual needs. Most of the work can be performed through light clothing – as a ‘rule of thumb’ a therapist can only work effectively through one layer of light clothing; jeans and other stiff materials are not suitable. If you are in any doubt about what you should wear please ask before you attend a session; it is important that you feel relaxed and comfortable during treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Like all forms of therapy, there is no cast iron guarantee because everyone responds differently, but one or two treatments at weekly intervals are often sufficient to achieve lasting relief from even long standing pain. Many people need only one session. Some problems need more treatments and some fewer, but what won’t happen is that you will be required to have a long course of treatment, only to find that it hasn’t helped. Although there are never any promises, you should, in most cases start to see change fairly quickly. Children tend to need fewer moves as they often respond to treatment more quickly.

What will it cost?

The initial session which includes taking a full history, lasts between 60 and 90 minutes and costs £45. If any subsequent sessions are needed the cost is £40. Payment by cash or card only; cheques no longer accepted.

For children up to the age of 5 treatments are free
For children aged 6 to 15 treatments cost £35

What can it treat?

It has been used to help: • Back pain and sciatic problems • Neck / shoulder problems including frozen shoulder • Knee, ankle, hamstring and foot problems • Jaw pain and/or misalignment • Groin pain and pelvic tilt • Tennis / golf elbow, • Carpal tunnel syndrome, RSI or tendonitis • Respiratory problems • Sports and accident injuries + sports injury prevention • Stress related anxiety / tension  • Digestive and bowel problems  • Posture and body alignment • Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome ..and much more

Is your therapy the same as massage, chiropractic, osteopathy, acupuncture or physiotherapy?

No. While it achieves many of the same outcomes it is unlike any other form of hands-on therapy. Whilst there are occasional similarities with other therapies – such as working over the same areas as acupuncture points – it achieves results in a different way. Helmsley Natural Health Clinic provides a gentle remedial therapy which stimulates the body to rebalance itself and promotes healing, pain relief and recovery of energy. Many clients have expressed surprise – and delight – at just how effective such a gentle therapy can be.

Do I have to be unwell or have a problem to come to the clinic?

No. People have therapy for many reasons. Often it is because of pain and discomfort. However, when these problems are resolved, many people choose to have periodic top up sessions. One or two sessions a year can help towards maintaining a healthy mind and body balance. These maintenance sessions can be all that is needed to keep physical and emotional issues at bay. We have special offers for people who want to book a sequence of sessions.
